On December 1st we provided an envelope to everyone who attended services that morning as part of our Christmas Classics Message Series. Inside was $5, $10 or $20. We asked each individual to use their envelope to bless someone else. Here are just some of the stories that have been shared. We'll keep adding stories as you continue to share with us!

GOD IS GOOD!

I got bags and crackers plus golden grahams treats and pop tarts and give out to homeless.

I donated to days for girls, allowing girls all over the world to go to school every day! “when we mobilize girls and women, their communities and our world grow stronger”

It was only my second time attending Mainstreet and after the envelopes were passed out the gentleman sitting next to me asked if I had anyone in mind for giving a gift to. I told him that gifting something to my two front desk coworkers was what I was planning. He then insisted on giving me his envelope as well to add to the gift. So my $10 was doubled and I am able to give even more because of his generosity. Thank you, Mike!

A co-worker that I just met in October shared with me that she had, without warning, lost her full time job. When we were given this challenge last week, I instantly thought of her. God orchestrated our meeting in the break room in that as I was just coming into work, she was sitting there taking her break. I sat down and shared with her about the message at my church and how we were given the challenge to bless someone's Christmas. As I told her that my thoughts were on her, the tears started welling up in her eyes. I handed her the envelope and she asked if she could give me a hug. As she hugged me, she said that no one had ever done something like this for her before. While I was trying to give her a blessing, she blessed me even more! I praise God for a church that feeds us God's truth and gives us opportunity to spread His love!! I used my "Miracle Money" to help with the purchase of a coat for a young person.

World Vision had a matching gift on Giving Tuesday: The normal $25.00 gift to Necessities in USA  multiplies 5X to $125.00. Today only (Giving Tuesday ) your gift is matched so a $25.00 gift increases to $50.00 multiplied 5X increases to $250.00. After prayer on how to best use  our envelope given on Sunday we increased it to $25.00 and now a value of $250.00 is on it's way to Necessities in USA through World Vision.

We gave our envelope to the local Salvation Army branch to help others throughout the year, not just at the holidays.

My husband and I put our money together ($20) and mailed it to his daughter anonymously due to her going through financial and relational issues. On Wednesday She messaged me and said she received an envelope with $20 and no one signed and no return address on it. I messaged her back and said it’s a gift from God.

I went out in the lobby and had a lady put it on a envelope for the children's angel tree . i didn't even peek in the envelope.

I received an envelope with $5 in it. I’m always bothered at the thought of how many children do not get any gifts at Christmas. I went to Walmart and bought two scooters, one pink and one blue and then dropped them off at a local business that is a collection spot for Toys for Tots. I put my $5 in the Salvation Army bucket outside of Walmart.

So here is a story of how $10.00 blossomed overnight:

I had the idea to make some baggies full of some essential toiletry items for a few homeless people. I had a few items at home to donate, a friend of mine had a few more items. I found some small little stockings I had bought after Christmas last year so those would work as festive packaging. The little girl I take care of in the mornings was intrigued about my plan and started working on filling the stockings yesterday morning. A few minutes later I found a cereal bar in one of the stockings, I asked her where this came from, she explained she took it from her bookbag because she didn't think homeless people shouldn't have anything to eat. Precious! So on my list went some snacks to add to the stockings.

I went to the local dollar store and bought a few more things. At this point I had a little bit of stuff in the bags but was missing toothpaste for the 10 bags so I called my dentist office to get some samples. They happily supplied me with 10 and some floss, cool.

Then my mom asked me how she could help, what I still needed. I told her I was shy on enough soaps and was going to call a local hotel to see if they could donate a handful. Well, mom went to the new hotel on Navarre Ave. Mom explained to the woman what we were looking for and why and then the WOW factor.... the woman gave us a dozen each: shampoos, conditioners lotions, soaps, deodorants, and combs. And then the woman said here take them is this backpack.... oh and by the way ....I have a box of 200-300 backpacks you can have!

The moral of the story:

  1. God can do A LOT with a little!
  2. A little girl knows people should have food and was willing to give her own food to someone she doesn't know.
  3. A hotel worker didn't wake up today saying how can I help the homeless people today? She may never have thought of doing anything like that before and that box of backpacks are on their way to finding an owner.
  4. The local dentist probably never thought about it before either.
  5. I don't share this to brag about what I did, what I accomplished BUT to tell you how God used $10.00 to change possibly hundreds of lives!
  6. If anyone has anything they want to donate to these back packs (and your local) I would love to add to the bags before they get distributed. If you're not local then start your own collection in your area. We only contacted 2 places and have enough for a dozen people within 24 hours. I will for sure be doing this again next year but will start earlier in the year.
