A message from UB GLOBAL Team

On the news, you’ve probably seen the devastation left by Hurricane Melissa. UBs in Jamaica experienced the worst effects of the 185mph winds, and UBs in the southern part of Haiti were impacted by flooding and damages from strong winds. Thank you to those who have been praying along with us, especially those who responded to our initial social media posts! 

Through international UB leaders, we’ve been hearing updates throughout this devastating natural disaster. For example, in Jamaica, where the effects of the hurricane was the worst, many parts of the island do not have power and UB families & churches are still assessing their damage. Initial reports indicate many homes and churches have various levels of roof damage, including a church which lost its entire roof! Leadership there estimates it will be a while before they know the full extent of the damage. 

In the meantime, if you are interested in donating to relief efforts, you can give electronically by clicking here. Also, mailing a check will ensure your gifts are not reduced by the additional fees charged by credit card companies.

When the full assessment of the hurricane damage is complete, we will work with our international leadership to distribute the funds to the UB churches & communities with the greatest need.

Stephen Ministry

What is a Stephen Minister?


Stephen Ministers are Mainstreet members trained to provide one-to-one care to those experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief, divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, or relocation. Stephen Ministers come from all walks of life, but they all share a passion for bringing Christ’s love and care to people during a time of need. Since 1975, more than 600,000 people from more than 13,000 congregations and other organizations have been trained as Stephen Ministers.

  • Stephen Ministers have been through a 50 hour training class to support people. 
  • Provides high-quality, one to one Christ Centered care to people in the Church and the community that are experiencing life difficulties.
  • Needs for care that a Stephen Minister can meet? – Grief, Medical crises, Divorce/Separation, Spiritual Crises, Retirement/Unemployment/Job Crises, Birth/Adoption/Miscarriage, Relocation, Recovery from Accident/Disaster.

The Giving Center (our free clothing store ministry that offers good, quality clothing free of charge) is designed to serve everybody. We believe anyone who is in need of help, a little or a lot, regardless of the reason, can come and share in this opportunity. DONATE TO THE GIVING CENTER

All donations of clothing and shoes can go in the collection bins located in the parking lot. Just a friendly reminder to place all your donations in bags prior to dropping in the bins. This keeps the clothing dry and makes it easier for unloading.

It's not just volunteering; it's making sure every individual feels valued and cared for. Together, we'll transform lives, one outfit and one smile at a time.

  • Operation Christmas Child

    October 19 – November 16
    Operation Christmas Child provides less fortunate children worldwide a shoe box full of gifts to brighten the Christmas holiday and potentially teach them about our Savior Jesus Christ. You can join this effort by stopping by the table in the lobby to pick up boxes, gift tags and info about filling the shoe boxes. You may also just use your own shoe box or a plastic one available at dollar stores. This year you may want to opt for building a digital shoe box as well! Boxes will be available in the lobby beginning October 19. The deadline to return filled shoe boxes is November 16. Please include $10 for shipping costs.

  • Path to Christmas Volunteer Opportunities

    We are in need of volunteers to join the team as we begin to prepare and host our annual "Path to Christmas" - outdoor Live Nativity event! It takes many hands to make this happen, and we would love for you to be part of this incredible event. We’re looking for volunteers to help with all sorts of things, such as: set design/props, set up/tear down, gift bag assemblers, volunteer dinner helpers, and silent actors.     Pick up an empty GREEN Bag for November donations: Canned goods and gift cards for Angel Tree Food Box Giveaways. The list is available at the Serve Counter and HERE. Return the filled GREEN Bags to the Serve Counter by Sunday, November 30th. Thank you for your generosity!

There are lots of ways to get involved in ministry at Mainstreet. Here is a list of categories with some brief explanations to help you explore options that might fit your interests, talents or experience. These categories apply to many different ministries from kids to adults, Sunday mornings to special events.  For more info on any of the following you can click HERE.

Organize, coordinate, help with details, enter data

Hold babies, play with toddlers, interact with grade schoolers, hangout with or mentor teens

 

Facility Needs (Anytime)

Snow Removal (Sundays), Monday AM cleaning crew, grounds-keeping

 

Funeral Dinner Team  (As needed)

Preparing and serving meals for families after the funeral services.  Also need people to prepare desserts.

 

Green Bag Collection  (Monthly)

Chance for the Church to leave the walls and serve corporately in multiple ways.

 

Grouplife (Anytime)

Grouplife leaders, facilitators, mentors

 

Hospitality (Sundays and Special Events)

Hosts, ushers, coffee bar attendants, Information Center attendants, parking lot attendants

 

Music/ Drama (Sundays)

Singers, instrumentalists, actors, writers, researchers, directors

 

Serving Saturday  (Special Event)

Chance for the Church to leave the walls and serve corporately in multiple ways.  Watch for promotion when we have a Serving Saturday scheduled to signup and serve!


Tech/ Video (Sundays)

Operate camera, audio, lighting board; video shooters, editors, directors

 

Visitation Team (Anytime)

Love, care, pray and visit our elderly in nursing homes and shut in their homes.
